vapp means business

Last week was a huge week for all of us at O Street, and especially for Vapp™—our app that lets you trigger your iPhone camera with sound. Not only is Vapp approaching 10,000 downloads and reached over 80 countries (not bad for two weeks), but on Friday we also picked up an award that really is much more than a pat on the back.

Vapp was selected as one of two winners of Glasgow’s Got Business Talent 2012, a dragons-den style competition for start-ups and SMEs run by Glasgow for Business Week (congratulations to Amanda Jack with Mediascot too, who won the pre-start category).

Of course winning the award  is a real honour in itself, but the prize also includes funding and support from some of Scotland’s finest and most successful business folk. We’ve already been working to build on the success of the first release and now to have this kind of backing and recognition makes a huge difference in taking this concept to the next level.

Have to say we’ve really enjoyed the whole experience and it’s been impressive to see just how many smart ideas and inspiring people there are right here in our ‘ain toon. Never doubted that but it’s always good to have a wee reminder that this is a fantastic city, full of ideas, full of opportunity. There’s no reason why we can’t live up to our heritage and make sure we continue to be known as the city and country of innovators.

So watch this space, and if you haven’t already please download vapp here and give it a shot
